May has been a great month for European Movement and the UK in general. The EU-UK summit on May 19 has laid the ground for closer cooperation in key areas of defence, trade of food and plants and new opportunities for young people. While we wish to see things move faster, it is a step in the right direction: towards the EU where this country rightfully belongs.
Our VE Day event on May 8 at the Omnibus Theatre was well attended and sparked much energetic discussion regarding future strategy. It was opened by MP Marsha de Cordova and followed by a premiere of the new film by EMUK: Flags in the Wind’. Do take time to watch it if you have not seen it yet.
The breakout groups that followed were both stimulating and practical; read about it in our report here.
Going forward, we will be focusing on:
- engaging young people and encouraging school exchanges
- lobbying our local politicians
- re-engaging with local businesses and chambers of commerce
- renewing contacts with local groups representing communities from EU countries
We also look forward to working more closely with our members and supporters and hope to see as many people as possible at our next street stall on Saturday July 5 at Northcote Road, Battersea from 11am – 1 pm.
